Our Philosophy
Mission Statement
We strive to improve and grow the sport of gymnastics through practical, evidence-based research.
Vision Statement
Our vision is that gymnastics can be a lifelong sport.
Motto
Evidence, not anecdotes.
What we do
GRI provides high-quality research for coaches, athletes, and other gymnastics professionals to advance the safety, longevity, and performance of gymnasts.
GRI aims to be an impartial resource for coaches, athletes, and other gymnastics professionals. We believe that fostering a culture of collaboration in the gymnastics community is key. Collaboration and evidence-based research have the power to improve our understanding of and decision making within the sport.
Why we do it
We love the sport of gymnastics. Plain and simple.
With increasing reliance on biomechanists, researchers, data scientists, and engineers in other sports, we believe expanding these tools within gymnastics can help to improve and grow the sport.
Whether you are involved in beginner or elite level gymnastics, you come from a small or large gym, or you have decades or weeks of gymnastics experience, we believe you will discover beneficial ideas in our research.
The Nature of Research
Scientific research is an iterative process, with knowledge growing and evolving over time. This process of advancement is only possible through openness to new ideas.
One research study should not be considered scientific truth. A study’s replicability, sample group size and representativeness, and other limitations are vital to understanding its relevance. Clear discussion of these limitations is lacking in much of current gymnastics research.
GRI seeks to conduct research reliably, ethically, and transparently. Communicating this research to the community in a clear and collaborative manner is key to advancing the sport’s scientific grounding.
Our research intends to empower gymnastics professionals and athletes to make their own informed decisions within the sport. However, the responsibility rests on individuals to implement, or to not implement, findings from our research.
